The Pirates of Penzance - 26th-30th May 2015
In 2015, Canterbury Operatic Society became the first group to perform one of Gilbert and Sullivan's timeless operas at the rebuilt Marlowe Theatre. For this, we returned to our favourite of these, The Pirates of Penzance.
With direction by John McCrae, musical direction by Diana Whybrow and choreography by Andy Granville, this proved to be a production which delighted audiences, taking a traditional, yet highly witty, take on this classic.

"Saw the Pirates of Penzance on Saturday. An excellent, professional production with the cast clearly enjoying themselves and a lot of in jokes / humour. My wife and I really enjoyed the production. The singing and acting was superb. Very well done and we look forward to your next production."

"It is 10 past ten on 27th May and I have just got home from this evenings performance of 'The Pirates of Penzance' at the Marlowe (I live very close to the theatre!)
Â
I came along having not seen one of your productions before expecting to be disappointed (my  experience of amateur operatics not having always been good).
Â
I have to say I came away amazed. If tonight's experience was anything to go by there are several 'professional' companies I have seen which could take a leaf from your book!
Â
The entire show was a privilege to see and hear. It would be unfair to pick any individual from the cast as all of you were exemplary and the production values far higher than I had any right to expect given the price of the tickets!
Â
Wishing you every success for the rest of the run. I hope you all enjoy it as much as you obviously did tonight and as much as I did!"
